Search Generative AI Control in Google Search Console - GEO 2026

🚨 Again BIG Search Console News! 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗜 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 is out! 🚨

Console just added a dedicated on/off switch for AI Overviews and AI Mode. Spotted by Jamie Indigo in an US account.

 

𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 > 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗜 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:

✅ Include my site's links and content in Search generative AI features (this is the default)
❗ Exclude my site's links and content from these features entirely

A few things worth flagging:
✅ By default its switched on.
✅ Excluding means zero visibility in AI Overviews and AI Mode. No impressions, no traffic, no grounding data pulled from your pages.
→ Child properties inherit the parent setting by default, but owners can override it individually.

My opinion: most sites should stay on Include for now. But if you're worried about your content getting summarized with zero click through, this is the cleanest way to opt out.
